Down and out...
Okay... yesterday, was physically down and out!! It all started with the occasional sneeze and sniffle. Brought leftover pizza (compliments of my sis) for lunch. Decided that I could use an 'outing' to get away from the cold office, so I went out with my colleagues when they went for lunch. Having already been sniffling, decided to have 100Plus la... At least can replenish some of the fluids I've been losing, hehe! Earlier in the day, took Sunkist Orange Juice and popped in vitamin, along with plenty of water, hoping to ward off the progression of the dreaded sniffles. Seemed to help a little bit, but when we came back after lunch.... it struck!! Acute case of ahchoo's and tissue dependance!! Sighz. Was so bad that I went to one of the bosses at my workplace to ask for the rest of the day off. Thankfully, I got just that!
So, off I went. Managed to get home in one piece, thank God. The sniffles were starting to win the battle... As soon as I got home, I was already too exhausted and sick. I wonder if I'd looked in the mirror, would I see a greenish hue? Anyway, I took an antihistamine, changed into something more comfortable, and slept... Slept... Slept... From 3pm, I wasn't even conscious of my surroundings (good thing no fire or war broke out, hehe!) until about 8pm. Woke up, ate dinner, was out again by about 9pm. Woke up in the middle of the night, around midnight, I think. Watched the finale of 'My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss' (extremely funny reality show!!) and then finally took a bath. Yes, I know that it's late, and I should not be taking bath at such late hours, but the initial plan to bathe before taking a nap when I got home could not materialize lar. I suppose it's good also, was waaaayyy too tired! If I had fallen over in the bathroom, I'd be... I'd be... oooh... I'd be in heaven... woohoo!! Okok, coming back down to earth now...
That was yesterday. Slept after the bath, and this morning, I woke up on the first alarm!! Haha. No snooze ler! Not something that happens often, hehe! I just laid there, wondering whether or not I wanted to go in to work today. Felt a bit feverish, but consultation with the trusty thermometer showed a normal temperature. So, decided to go in lah. As soon as I stepped into the office, I started to regret coming in, haha. Body aching from the effects of the acute onset yesterday! By the time all my other colleagues mosey-ed in, I'd managed to psych myself to stay in the office. No more sneezing and sniffling. Just the body ache. Bearable lah.
Later in the morning, there was a call from front office (department's office). At the time, I was trying to take blood pressure reading - the manual/traditional way! So long since I last did that... and it's still not an easy feat!! Front office said that (main) admin called to ask me to go downstairs to see the admin officer in charge of my employee file. Figuring that I'm not gonna get anywhere with my attempts to 'traditionally' take blood pressure measurement, I went down using the back stairs to admin, wondering what I could be called for.
Down the steps I went, one by one by.... whoops!!! Slipped a few steps!! Held onto the side rail for dear life, haha! Good thing I'm not that heavy kua... Or else cannot hold on to myself ler! Haha! Well, no broken bones... no broken back... no broken head... thank God!! Just lost some skin cells to the rail due to the friction. Thankfully, I had trimmed my nails last night. Or else, there might have been more damage (broken nail and such), haha! Feet scraped against the stairs, but I think my long pants prevented any scratches. Not sure if I sustained any bruises, but we shall know tomorrow, won't we?
So, feet aching a bit and feeling a bit shaken and unstable from the slip, went into admin to look for the admin officer. She wasn't at her table. Hey, didn't the call say to go down now? I asked her colleague for her. She pointed to the back. No. No sign of her. Then, suddenly, she popped up from behind the table! She was squatting next to another person's table. Must've been blocked by the computer also, haha!! I was chuckling by then... thinking, like some magic trick, haha!! Like Jason popping up from behind the partition on his cue to enter the scene at skit practice on Sunday, haha!
Here's the ironic thing, she asked me why I went down, as she asked to call her only. Hmm... must be miscommunication lar... sighz. Anyway, since I'd already gone down, she passed me a copy of the letter to inform me that I was selected to go for the Induction Course in April. Erm, a bit of background : induction course is basically introduction of government service and the laws and regulations during service, etc. For all government servants... Yes, I'm a government servant. Compulsory service. Ask me another time. Long story.
Okay, so there I was thinking, oh wow, at least I don't have to wait any longer, as I'd already been in government service for slightly more than 1.5 years. (We need to do the induction course and pass the induction exam before we complete 3 years service; and the exam results take months before it is released) Then I read on... the induction course will be in.... CORAL BAY RESORT, PANGKOR ISLAND!! Woo hoo!!! So, I'll be away for induction course from 12th - 25th April! Time to go shopping for sunblock, hehe! Not so sure what is in store, but the timetable suggests long long days of activities and lectures. Need to wake up at 6:30am everyday!!! Sleep is scheduled at about 11pm, but from stories from seniors, I may be expecting much less sleep than that. Sighz. Oh well, you'll hear all about it when I get back. The good part is that during the 2 weeks, I'll be on unrecorded leave... haha! However, the not so good part is that the exam is on the very next day after we come back : 25th April 2007. So fast!! On the lighter side, at least all the stuff that was taught will still be fresh in my mind, right?
Okay... that's it for the tales of 'down and out'... Until next time... I'll try to be more careful on steps, and so should you... *winks* Take care!!

Labwork hands-on day
There was a demo on how to do PCR (polymerase chain reaction), followed by cloning (involving ligation and transformation), on Monday. Yeah, you heard it right... Cloning, man!! Me... doing cloning... hehehe!! Yesterday was Rae's turn to hands-on what was demonstrated on Monday, and today was mine. Hence, I was spending most of the day in the labs... brought my laptop to work, as usual, but didn't get a chance to even turn it on, haha!
The first part of the day was preparing the PCR reaction. PCR basically is to make many many copies of a desired fragment of DNA. Fooyoh... I sound so smart ler... haha!! Eh, almost 7 months in this new place, new 'field'... at least know a little bit la, hehe! The first few months was horribly torturing - imagine having a little bit of surface knowledge on basic PCR back in pre-uni, and choosing to drop (the subject) Biotechnology in uni! What and how much do you suppose I'd remember?! Practically have to learn all over again lor... and even deeper into the subject, since there's both theory and application.
So anyway, preparing for PCR took about an hour... Then put into machine (yeah, got machine lar... ah but then?) for the next 2.5 to 3 hours. So, when the machine 'took over' the work, got some free time. That time got no space to sit at my place, hehe. Colleague doing some work there. So, laptop cannot turn on and use lor. Have to borrow someone else's computer to quickly check email. As usual, email oso not much happening there lor, sigh. So, ended up discussing the procedure for the next part - cloning!!
Once the PCR finished, did ligation. Erm... ligation ah... ahem... oh dear, can't remember what it is now... Lemme think... Okay, ligation is something like joining the fragments of DNA (remember the fragment that was multiplied in PCR?) into a plasmid vector (vector is something like a carrier) to form a ring (containing the desired DNA), which is then inserted into living bacteria cells that will multiply, making even more copies of the desired DNA....
Confused?? Hehe, hope not...
After ligation, went for lunch lor. After lunch, did transformation, which is the insertion of the plasmid vector + desired fragment of DNA into living bacteria cells. By the time that was done, it was already 4pm. Spread the cells onto an agar plate containing growth media, put the plate into incubator, clean up... 4:10pm. Went back to office... pack up laptop, which was on display only the whole day, haha!
If my efforts in the labs today was successful, I should be seeing some colonies growing tomorrow... hehe! We shall see, won't we? *winks* But, not that expectant for too great a result since still noob mah... Tomorrow will be running gel electrophoresis, and dunno what else. Another day in the labs, I suppose, hehe! Good oso la... if not whole day do nothing oso boring, right? Not taken any pictures... but then again, all this sounds so 'canggih' or high tech, but actually if you see it being done, it looks simple, haha! No time to stop and take pictures la... If got colony growth tomorrow then maybe got la... hehe!
All in all, long day... Especially the later part of the day, which I still have not figured out whether it is blog-able yet. If it is blog-able, then I'll be back... muahahahaha!! Hehe!

Reflections of the past week...
Let's recap last week and summarize the little bits and pieces that I can recall, hehe...
I remembered being all excited that Lovy was coming to visit... Major shopping spree!! Erm... mostly window shopping lah... don't worry!! *winks* Lovy got a few good buys though!! =) Ooohh... and my first taste of Ultimate Frisbee last Sunday... Yeah, Leishia, those people can run circles around you, can't they? Oh, and the difference between my experience and Leishia's is, I didn't get any 'formal training', i.e. the 'manual' that Leishia was blogging about... I got on-the-spot explanation and quick lesson on how to throw the frisbee (eh, in case you're wondering... I CAN throw a frisbee lah!!), and on to the game! To sum up the game in 3 words: FUN. Tiring. FUN!!!!
Ultimate shopping spree on Monday... Dragged self to work on Tuesday... late! Sigh. Was out the whole day again as I had another appointment after work. Perhaps I should've took an MC... but do they dish out MCs for lethargy?? Oh well... got home and slept till morning... Woke up late again... RUSH RUSH RUSH!!! Wednesday went by like a blur... too tired to go for prayer meeting some more... You may think I had enough rest since I missed prayer meeting... think again!! Thursday morning - I think I'd turned off my alarm instead of snoozing it... haihz!! And then Thursday became... another blur....
Friday came along really quickly... managed to get up and got to work at 7:15am!! What a feat, haha! But, it came at a price lah... Dozing off while driving... happened about 2-4 times! Thank God, I managed to get to work in one piece!! Sat down in office... fell in and out of sleep for an hour... not that it helped that much... but at least it got me through the day... Think I had a short nap during lunch hour also... Thank God for 2.5hr Friday lunch break!!!
Friday also happened to be the day that Matta Fair started... (Matta Fair = travel fair, where you can get discounts on flights, travel packages, etc) So, thinking that I'd avoid the crowd (and it was already pouring cats and dogs by the time I was leaving office), I took an alternative way home... little did I know that it took me 1.5 hours and about 1.5-2 times the normal distance, with RM3.20 in toll, to get home!!! Hence, missed my ride to cell, and had to drive self there. Sooo tired on Friday evening, couldn't bear to get out of bed as soon as I'd plopped onto it, in order to make some instant noodles for dinner. Ended up stuffing in 2 pieces of cream crackers after taking a quick bath and before leaving for cell group meeting. Interestingly enough, I didn't even feel hungry... must be the lethargy overriding any feeling of hunger, haha!
After cell meeting, went home and slept!!! Slept till about 11am... was awakened by parents cos they wanted to go for brunch and then visit my aunt who's warded in the hospital... So, dragged myself out of bed and we were out of the house by 12pm. Had brunch and then on to the hospital...
At the hospital, you would think that the fruit basket was meant for the patient's consumption... think again... haha!! In the end, my aunt had a quarter of a plum and 2-3 grapes... out of about 4-5 plums, an orange, 2 small bunches of grapes, and a couple of Packham pears!! She didn't want to eat cos it was too hard, and she didn't want to keep it for too long in case it spoils... so in the end, it was fruit fest for her son's family and mine, haha! Ironic!!!
Went home, napped, finished homework for Sunday's class... I suppose it was sufficient rest to get me up to make it to class on Sunday morning... 9am, okay... After Sunday service was lunch and go home for more rest... Sorry lah, Leishia, couldn't join in for frisbee... And soon enough, it was Monday... the week seemed to have flew right by!!
Overall, it started great!! Especially hanging out with Lovy and Donny. By Wednesday, I was like a walking zombie... So far, it seems that I'm back to normal (whatever that is, hehe!)
Oh yeah, yesterday ended with quite a sad note... I lost my white gold ring that my mom gave me. Think it slipped off without my noticing when I was washing my hands at KFC. So sad... And this morning, I had such a tough time (dunno how come suddenly liddat) maneuvering the side parking, I scraped my tyre against the curb and squished a few leaves of the plant that was growing there.

Such a beautiful forwarded email!
Got a nice forwarded mail today from my colleague. Such a cute forward... and better still, it didn't have those chain letter-ish 'threats'! Such a rare occasion... those chain letter forwards can be so irritating!
Well, here's the cute forward:
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~
Wishing you
In your busy life...
TIME FOR RELAXATION...
GOOD SLEEP...
GOOD HEALTH WITH EXERCISE...
A BIT OF ADVENTURE...
GOOD LOOKS...
But most of all...
I wish you lots of bear hugs...
And the comforts of real love...
Many blessings...
May you always have love to share, health to spare, and friends to care...
But watch out for those darn penguins!

Thoughts from Our Daily Bread : He is There
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
14th March 2007
He will not leave you nor forsake you. —Deuteronomy 31:6
Tanya’s fiancĂ© David was lying in the intensive care unit after a delicate procedure to repair a brain aneurysm. David’s eyes focused on Tanya, who had hardly left his side in several days. In wonder, he said, “Every time I look up, you’re here. I love that. Every time I think of you, I open my eyes and you are there.”
That young man’s appreciation for the woman he loves reminds me of the way we should feel about God’s presence in our lives.
He is always there. The Lord’s presence gives us comfort and security. He has promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5). Who knows us more completely? Who loves us more fully? Who cares for us so well?
In Psalm 139, we read what King David thought of God’s precious presence. He wrote, “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; . . . and are acquainted with all my ways. . . . If I ascend into heaven, You are there” (vv. 1-3,8).
No matter what happens to us, we have this assurance: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1). Open your eyes and your heart. He is there.
—Cindy Hess Kasper
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My prayer is that both you and I will be able to say of the Lord,
“Every time I look up, you’re here. I love that. Every time I think of you, I open my eyes and you are there.”
May God bless you today!

I'm soooo sleeeeepy!!
Okay... I think I'm awake now... I think... Nope, still feeling very sleepy, sigh. Had an eventful weekend... zipping all over the place. Yesterday was on leave for a girl's day out with my guest from Singapore... (Hope you had fun!!) Slept a little bit too well last night... Woke up late today... And still feeling sleepy! You might think that traffic will be much lighter since it's school holiday... think again! Or at least send a memo to all those people congesting traffic, haha!! So many many cars on the road lah!! Where got lighter traffic... Or maybe it's because I work in town?
*rubs eyes*... *blink*... *yawnz*...
I think my eyes are starting to tear from staring into the computer... =S

Weekend Escapade
Okie, as the title denotes, for those of you who are regular visitors to this blog... just letting you know that I'll be on a 'weekend escapade' lah... A dear fren from Singapore is coming to KL, so will be spending time with her (yes... girl lar... dun get funny ideas ah!) and hence, I may not be blogging as much this weekend. (Don't worry, I haven't fallen off the side of the Earth or got swallowed up by the earth!! *winks*) However, I think I've been posting up quite a bit thus far, so you can catch up on what you've not had a chance to see yet (haha!) and perhaps if I find some pockets of time, will drop in lar... hehe!
Alrighty, better go now... Or else I'll be late for work!! Unlike most of y'all, my working hours starts very early... 7:30am (yep, you read it right!! don't need to check your eyes lah). But it does have it's 'perks'... cos I finish work at 4:30pm... woot!! Okay, gotta run... have a great weekend ahead y'all!!

Reflections of CNY 2007...
There was the crazy antics...
The ang pao collection... (even the dog oso wan ang pao!)
And, of course, what's New Year without the relatives...
Got a brand new cheongsam this year... Courtesy of my aunt, who so graciously sewn it... One for me and one for sis! It's a pity that we didn't take pictures in it... Well, there were none that we posed for anyways. Just random shots here and there. Like the one carrying the dog to take ang pao, for instance. Sigh... this year didn't take the 'customary' family photos after ang pao session... Guess we were too hungry, hehe!
As usual, CNY food galore... Again, no pictures of it... Which is quite common... The typical scenario: Eat first, realize didn't take picture before eating, too late! *winks* *grinz*
Overall, not too bad a New Year. Just wished that more family members were around to celebrate together. Some overseas, some working... Well, still overall, it was good to have spent time with the loved ones. Hope you have had many wonderful memories of CNY 2007!

Setting up justkimz.blogspot... The story so far...
Today itself, I've modified the player. Now, it doesn't autoplay or loop... So, if you wanna hear what song I have there, you have to click on the play button la... (This is response to someone who commented that the song was overplayed for him/her liao since he/she checks in quite often... you know who you are... hope you're happy with the changes I've made... and thanks for the comments and for 'following' the 'progress' of this blog!) *html code overdose... haha!*
I'm currently working on some CNY pics, which had just been uploaded from the camera... I'll post some here, okay... Later on... For now, I think it's doughnut time!!! (Thanks for the Dunkin Donut, Leha!)

Ho-hum... Another quiet day...
So, we started the 'journey' by calling the colleague who's in hospital... We are 'scheduled' to arrive at around 2pm... and we found out that she has a check-up (and possibly x-ray) and will be discharged at 3:30pm... So now, lesser things to do... and looking forward to seeing her soon... Glad she's able to be discharged already... Hope you're feeling better, V!
Hence, we went for a bite and then bought the farewell gift... which was nicely wrapped and we 'made' a card to go with the gift... The shop didn't provide card this time... and we were too busy ogle-ing at the other stuff there till we didn't notice that we didn't get one... hehe... oh well. Well, on the bright side... more *ahem* personalized lor. A colleague has got some good quality paper, so it actually looked very nice! Take a look...
Not bad, eh? He (ya... it's a guy with nice handwriting... rare breed, hor...) can write cursive very well mah... and is a fountain pen collecter, user, etc... The cover of the card is his handiwork lor... Eh, Lim, thanks wei!
Okay lar... I think have to stop here liao... laterz peeps!

One tablet of loratidine and 12 hours later...
Hmmm... just had a chat with my nephew and got some pics from his camera, which was taken during CNY... I am still unsure whether I'm supposed to feel old or young, hehe... given the fact that he's only 2 years my junior!!
Here's a pic of my sis, my two nieces and me...
All look alike?? Hahaha... Looks like all squished into a tiny couch, hehe!
And then I realized... we didn't take any pics with the poor thing (my nephew)... aiyoh! Will have to go and review the pics from my dad's camera... dunno if there is any there... if don't have... sorry yeah...

Pass the tissues please...
*sniffle* *sniff* *sniffle*
*reaches over for the umpteenth tissue*
Yup... that basically sums up my morning so far... It's a wonder how I managed to drive to work unscathed... Especially with episodes of violent sneezes and the seemingly endless leakage of the nose... sigh. Crazy high amounts of histamines running around kua... *sniffle* *reaches for tissue...* Even despite the antihistamines I'd popped this morning... I have a feeling this is going to be a long and tiring day... My eyes feel watery already... Body weak... Getting hungry also (no wonder la... sneezing so violently... takes up energy, you know...)
Apart from that, seems like it'll be a quiet day at the office. Boss on leave... everyone minding their own business, doing their own thing... and this tranquility is then disturbed by another series of violent sneezing... sigh... Sorry, guys!!!
Oh no... looks like a headache from the congestion of the sinus is on the way... sigh.

Noob blogger
Someone has been mentioning that I've been putting up quite a number of posts. Well, makes me wonder whether this is the case of "hangat-hangat tahi ayam" (errrm... directly translated, roughly means 'warm chicken shit'). Hope not... haha! Erm, hope that the high number of posts are not cos this is a new experience, that is! Okay, put the shit matter to rest ppl!! =P
Well, overall, I guess this blog is kind of a reflection of what I've learnt through the years too... haha... My few html classes paid off, at least(!), hehe! Still have no inkling about Java Scripts (we didn't learn it la... just that I heard it's really popular and some actually added them to their webpage assignment, which I obviously was unable to do... sigh) On a different note, up till today, I still have no clue why I had to endure C++... TOTALLY unrelated to my field of study!!
So... bottom line is... still a noob... but willing to learn... hehe! So far... so good la... Props to my blogging mentors and sifu's (masters)!!! I will soon learn how to hyperlink and link to webpages of others... muahahaha... hehe!

Observations put to words...
2. It is often the case that if you can do it once, you can (and most likely will) do it again.
3. Funny how it seems that expectations tend to leave you feeling worse.
4. If you see the brighter side, there's a chance that you're in the dark.
5. [Saw this somewhere] : The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can't have them.
6. One of the most cruel things you can do to someone is to be absent, despite being present.
7. Lies : the selective withholding of truth; the manipulation of truth.
8. Isn't it sad that no one knows how to take responsibility anymore? Most people these days just find a reason then bail out.
9. Is it worth hardening your heart so the pain will cease?

People say 'shit happens'... but what to do when it feels like diarrhea?
It's been a long week. A long month. A long time. Too many complications. Too many things to think about, to consider.
The bright side? Hopefully, a light at the end of the dark tunnel!
